Opening: Halsted's

Some eight weeks ago, small plate pioneer X/O bade Boystown farewell, with hugs and kisses. Promises were made that the restaurant would be reopening as a bar & grill some time in May. Well, optimism is no crime, so we welcome its recent reincarnation as Halsted's, the promised b&g. While Halsted's may not be the destination for foodies that X/O once sort of was, they do at least have a tremendously long menu spread over several meals to cover the 108 hours a week that they are open. That is 64.29% of the time, and we do not consider it to be a failing grade (although some teachers in our past may disagree).

Halsted's serves traditional bar fare like salads, burgers and pizza, but in a nod to their pedigree, throws in a few mussel options (X/O mussels are steamed with lemon grass, garlic, ginger, shallots, white wine, diced tomato and cilantro, $9.95). And in a nod to another "root," Halsted's pridefully offers a GLBT panini (fresh guacamole, red leaf lettuce, applewood smoked bacon and tomato, $8.95). Anyway, the past is the past, the present is the present, and you might as well give Halsted's a shot; it hasn't wronged you yet. Oh yeah, and their MySpace page says something about having Boystown's largest outdoor beer garden and only music video jukebox. You have been warned.
