Meet The Scrapple Burger

ScrappleAt last week's Scrapplefest in Reading Terminal Market, a scrapple recipe contest was held. Contestants were chosen from the market's vendors and it was a mixed bag: There were valiant tries including scrapple sashimi from Down Home Diner, a scrapple breakfast pizza from By George and even a sweet scrapple bread pudding ("dressed with a creamy white chocolate sauce") from Steve Taylor of the Cookbook stall.

But the winner turned out to be Nich Ochs of beloved Reading Terminal butcher Harry G. Ochs and Sons, with his scrapple burger and fries:

The Scrapple King makes his burger with Ochs homemade scrapple, sautéed green peppers and red onions, Worcestershire sauce, and an egg to bind. Ochs serves his pan-fried burger on a Le Bus onion roll with sliced tomato, romaine lettuce and ketchup. French fries - deep fried scrapple strips - accompany the delectable patty.
