LaBan Lawsuit In AP
It looks like the Associated Press have finally picked up on the Craig LaBan lawsuit story. To recap, Inquirer food critic LaBan is being sued by Chops owner Alex Plotkin for libel over mentioning a "miserably tough and fatty strip steak" that he had at a meal there. For his part, Plotkin alleges that what LaBan really had was a "steak sandwich without bread." Only, you see, LaBan's receipt indicates he was served "steak frites." Whatever—the real news here is that Plotkin's lawyers made LaBan undergo a (rare) videotaped deposition. This means LaBan's identity could be shown in public. For a food critic whose job depends on being able to go unnoticed, that's a very bad thing indeed.
