Take That, San Mateo!

Is it bad that we got all giggly after reading Michael Bauer's tacit assertion that there are no worthwhile dining destinations between San Francisco and Palo Alto? Probably. But he may be right. The funny thing was just that he was all, "yeah, I agree, reader. San Mateo sucks it. Anybody got a problem with that?"
Just because we are a provincial know-nothing without a car, and therefore can't speak up in San Mateo's defense, doesn't mean there is nothing to say. At this early stage, though, there are no comments one way or the other on Bauer's blog. Are you from the northern Peninsula? Go defend your territory!
Why aren't there better restaurants outside San Francisco?

Gator's my man! Gators!
It's on B Street, right off First Avenue. Sorry I don't have the addres, but the Chef Glen, is outstanding the food is to die for. Shrimp and Grits, which is really Shrimp and Prawns. It has a Zagat and received it about a month after it was opened. Music is hot, dancing, and just a great place. I'm sorry we're in a recessioin and you feel there are slim pickens between SF and my city of San Mateo.
Although I'm the an ex Mayor, I feel there are great places to eay in my beloved city. Also try the lamb shanks, good wine, too.

Comeona my house! May I also mention Kabul in San Carlos. Once again, I don't know the address, but Lord Have Mercy! You need to go there. The Sabsi Chala, is outstanding, the kabobs melt in your mouth. I'm going there for lunch tomorrow. Kabul is in a strip mall on El Camino just beyond the Belmont border.
Capellini on B Street used to do a calamari steak that made you want to slap someone one! Oh, my!
You just don't know the delights of the Peninsula especially San Mateo. WhenI was Mayor, I dined out more often, but with less money I stay at home, but San Mateo and San Mateo County has treasuers, you just not aware of. I recent ate in a spot out in Woodside, that was outstanding. The Ritz in Halfmoon Bay serves an onion soup that is bar-none. They serve a dish of calamari and shrimp that melts on your tongue. You just don't know San Mateo County!
Spiedo used to have a terrific chef. Haven't been there recently. Perhaps not a Zagat, but good food. Spiedo is across the street from Viognier. The owner Humdi Ugar does crepe suzettes, that will knock your socks off! Comeona my house! San Mateo has some good eating!
