Opening: Better Than Sex
The best way to get your restaurant some free publicity before it even opens its doors seems to be to give it a racy or controversial name. Remember all the hullabaloo about El Carajo when it first opened? Here's another one: Better Than Sex, a bakery opening today in Key West. The opening has been covered in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Naples. Granted, they all ran the same AP story, but still — do Orlando residents care that much about a bakery that is opening an eight-hour drive away?
According to the story, a sampling of menu items includes: Missionary Crisp, Pump-in Pie and Pop My Cherry Cheesecake. We'll work on getting the rest of the menu, as soon as we can find a phone number for this place...

My husband & I own and operate the new Dessert Restaurant in Key West! Yes, the name Better Than Sex is built in marketing - smart thinkin!
One of the best things about Key West's electricity is that people from all over the world visit us on a daily basis. The AP posting our opening, as well as TV News and radio news has already had an impact on tourists dining in our place. Guests have brought the articles with them from the town they are from, just so they made sure they could find us!!
It's been an amazing first 2 nights of what we had intended to be a soft opening - Visit us in 2 weeks on June 3rd for the official Grand Opening Celebration! You'll just have to visit us to find out the rest of the menu item names!

Why would anyone with a good sense of business criticize great marketing? The best thing about Better Than Sex is that they stand behind their marketing - the desserts are better than sex! On another note, my father lives in Orlando area and is coming to visit me (I live in Key West) in July. He saw the article and asked me to take him there when he is here. Apparently, good marketing actually works!

My friend and I were turned on(no pun intended!)to 'Better than Sex' buy Sunny's deli...I really enjoyed the intimate atmosphere. We got the Missionary Crisp with the vanilla bean balls. I also got a glass of incredible white wine...I wish I could remember what the name of it it was! The dessert absolutely lived up to the name of the restaurant! It was incredible! Before we left, the chef also let us sample the cheese cake. Let me just say, "WOW"!! I cant wait to return to the Keys so I can try something else!
